A vibrant showcase of Kalinga’s rich cultural heritage and local products is set to take center stage as BSTM students from the College of Entrepreneurship Tourism and Hospitality Management (CETHM) present their MICE activity, “ROOTS AND ROUTES: Collaborating with Local Communities and Experiencing the Thread of Kalinga Products.” The event, scheduled for April 28-29, 2025, promises an immersive experience for attendees, highlighting the diverse offerings Kalinga province.

The CETHM students have organized the event to not only fulfill their academic requirements but also to forge stronger connections between tourism and local communities. “We wanted to create a platform where we could showcase the incredible products of Kalinga and, at the same time, learn how to promote sustainable tourism that benefits both the visitors and the locals,” Dean Karen Razelle M. Duyan said.

“ROOTS AND ROUTES” will feature a wide array of products sourced directly from various municipalities in Kalinga, giving attendees a taste of the region’s unique offerings. The two-day event will go beyond a simple product display.

The event is expected to draw a diverse audience, including students, faculty members, local community representatives, tourism industry stakeholders, and cultural enthusiasts. By bringing together these different groups, “ROOTS AND ROUTES” aims to create a dynamic environment for learning, collaboration, and the promotion of Kalinga’s unique cultural and economic assets.

“This event is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and is a best practice of the College since 2021, said Mrs. Glory Anne Karen Caldingon, the Teacher in charge said “It demonstrates their understanding of the importance of community engagement in tourism and their commitment to promoting sustainable and culturally sensitive practices.

“ROOTS AND ROUTES” is positioned not only as an academic endeavor but also as a step towards fostering a more sustainable and inclusive tourism industry in the Philippines, where local communities are empowered, and cultural heritage is preserved and celebrated.
